Stockton-on-Tees Backhouse & Co five pound note.

These images show the front and back of a Stockton-on-Tees Backhouse & Co five pound note dated 19th of the 6th Month 1882.

The front has a woman sat on a stone engraved Darlington 1774 with a dog, snake and vulture around her and ships can be seen at sea in the distance.

The bottom corner was cut from the notes to show they had been used.

  1. I have just managed to buy one of these notes to add to my collection. Mine is dated 1st of the 9th month 1887 and there are all sorts of mames and stamp marks etc on the back. I think that someone told me the notes actually came from Darlington.
