  2. It is great to see some old names cropping up on this site. I think Sandy Middleton is actually Sandra who used to pal about with Pat Whitmarsh and Margaret Marr. I remember Frank Burn going to Canada. I nearly went to Canada at 21 to join the RCMP but lost my confidence because I would have had to go alone as no one else in the family wanted to go. I am desperate to arrange a reunion and would love to hear from any of the old pupils from Newham Grange.

  3. Hi Sandy did you find the photo of the Newham Grange girls hockey team.Frank the running up the hill to the dinner hall at Newham Grange from Newtown did us no harm, because I won the Stockton Junior Schools Athletic Championships 440yds race on the Victoria Ground in 1953,I remember the trial to represent Newtown school, all the boys in the top two years that were fit & able lined up at the Browns Bridge end of the playground & we ran round the roundabout at the Durham Road end & back. Mr Wynn the Headmaster was a great influence on the pupils.

  6. We were one of the few teams to get the better of Richard Hind at the Ropner playing fields,we beat them 7-1, but could not beat them when it counted as mentioned above. Three of us in this team Mally Heath, Ray Best & myself won the Stockton Senior School Athletic Championships 4 x 110 yards relay along with Phil Veitch. Mally Heath played for Billingham Synthonia Juniors & Thornaby Juniors good teams at the time & represented Durham F.A.at youth level.
