  2. Peter Seaman in this photo was a natural goalscorer for a little chap, he done very well for Head Wrightsons in the late sixties playing alongside a big striker the late Billy Bumford. Peter was a big mate of the goalkeeper Joe Driver who was also a good cricketer.

  3. If it was Micks granny she would have kicked him back, won the ball, then charged up field and scored! Great guy Mick, and a good referee.

  4. Mick Sowerby has been a great servant of football, first as a player, then referee & coaching teams which he is still involved in. These people are the real football fanatics, a great bloke off the pitch but when he was playing he would of kicked his own granny if she had an opposing shirt on.

  5. You are right Brian, the team played as Port Clarence in the Stockton & District League, but as Bob says you would always have a hard encounter with all the Port Clarence teams.

  6. Did this team move into the Stockton & District League as Port Clarence Royal Rovers? I remember a few tough encounters between them and Wolviston in the 70s.

  7. Norton C.C.T. (now Norton & Stockton Ancients) won the North Riding Amateur Cup that season Brian, beating another good Teesside League team Whinney Banks in the final at Head Wrightson’s ground. There were some good Sunday league teams came from Port Clarence, the Royal Hotel & the Station were two, the Royal was made up of Northern League & Teesside League players.

  10. Who knocked you out Brian? I remember you playing for a good Roseworth side about 1965.
Port Clarence have had some good teams down the years, Middlesbrough players the late Willie Maddren & Alec Smith were products of this teams juniors, Port Clarence had a good side in the Stockton & District League in the middle seventies – Eddie Larkin, Johnnie Mernagh, Johnnie Morning, Eddie Salmon & Frank Kelly to name a few, all good lads but highly competitive.
