Harrowgate Junior School at Teesside Airport c1960s

t14458 t14459 t14460These photographs were taken on a school outing to Teesside Airport. The children are from Harrowgate Junior School. How many of them can recognise themselves over 50 years later? BKS must be long gone now. I wonder when they stopped flying? c1960s.

  1. The aeroplane is a Bristol Britannia , registration number G-APLL , which flew with BKS between 1965 and 1969 . This particular aircraft , Lima Lima – you can see the codes on the nose wheel door , was chosen by Corgi to represent the type in it’s die-cast ‘Classic Propliners’ series !

In the bottom photograph the gentleman facing the camera on the RHS could be Brian Champley who worked at Teesside Airport almost since the day it opened until his retirement in 1985 . That’s a nice selection of period cars to identify too ?

  2. Great pictures! BKS changed its name to Northeast Airlines, and was then merged into the newly formed British Airways in 1974.

There’s a Trident painted in Northeast Airlines colours at the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum in Sunderland with lots of memorabilia on board.
