Morris Oxford Estate Car, Barry Williams Garage c1984

t14512A view of a Morris Oxford estate car at Barry Williams Garage on the A19 Billingham bypass (opposite the swan) in 1984. By this time Morris Oxford estate cars were becoming quite rare. Also notice the BL Princess behind, these too are quite scarce now.

  1. This model was from the late 1960’s range of Austin / Morris cars styled by Italian stylist Pinin Farina. However, I think that any British Leyland car would be ‘rare’ by now, as they were in the main ‘rust boxes’ or mechanical disasters. I once bought a 1973 ‘Allegro’ 1750cc Sport (with every conceivable extra) that developed a new fault almost every week of my 2-year ownership!

    • I had a friend who owned a Maxi. He said the gear box was like a stick in a box of sand. It certainly let him down him on several occasions.
