Local rugby player, William ‘Stockton’ Nicholson

t14624This is William Nathan Nicholson (1871 – 1933) he was a well known figure in the town, he played Rugby for Durham County, West Hartlepool & Hartlepool Rovers. William was popularly known as ‘Stockton’.

  1. The photo of the cap is West Hartlepool Rugby Club about 1896. William Nathan is the grandfather of the Harburn brothers Bill, Albert & Bob, Bob (Sonny) & Lenny Nicholson, also the great/ great/ grandfather of Adam Nicholson the Stockton Town footballer.
