Mishap on the east grid ICI freight yard – I worked there for British Rail in 1955 as a oiler boy a j 27 loco with a rake of box wagons just after leaving the yard an ICI crane swung its jib across the line the j27 loco derailed and was pushed along the line for about 200 yards, all the buffers became interlocked on the loose coupled train the cranes jib was snapped off, I recall the fireman was called Oscar Harrington, Ivan’s brother. The most important train to leave the yard was the Drikold train which left the yard 17.30 usually pulled by a York b 16


  2. very nice but as i stated these were known as ici sidings nowhere are they mentioned as east grid sidings whereas on the diagram of belasis lane which i will submit to this site it states east grid, and of course it doesn’t show the length of the beck branch with any of the relevant ground frames so i cannot see why you call it the sidings east grid when they are shown as inward sidings
