  1. The teacher is the man who started the metalworking classes in 1955. These were in a separate purpose built building, just across from the boy’s section of Richard Hind. I still remember the persistent smell of grease and soldering flux about the place.

    I was only in the class one year, in 1955, before the teacher gave up on someone, who although destined to be a metallurgist, was hopeless at metalwork and woodwork. Both subjects require strength in the arms and good eyesight. I had neither
