Football Photograph – any ideas?

t15407Front row, 2nd from the left is my dad Arthur Edwin Brookes and on the back row, 2nd from the right is his older brother Les Brookes. Does anyone know the other players were and what team it was?

  1. Would you be the same Peter Brookes that worked at the MOD at Eaglescliffe with your mam and dad? I was in A block and D block and then went to the Gibbs Office. I was Carol Fryer and met and married Roger Brand while there.

    • Yes I’m Brookesie. Retired last year & enjoying being lazy. Hope life is treating you both well. Unfortunately I only have access to computer at library, so any replies I send may be somewhat delayed.

  2. The successful Sparkes teams over the years had many very good Stockton and District players including the four brothers of the Clarke family from Primrose Hill, namely Terry the eldest who died tragically in a swimming accident while on holiday on the coast, Terry decided to go for a last swim on the last day of his holiday and drowned. Billy was the second brother who also died very early, then Colin who was a member of the Famous Stockton Boys team that reached the Final of the English Schools Shield in 1946, only to lose to Leicester City Boys in a two legged Final. The 4th brother Peter was also very good cricketer with Stockton CC. Peter also died early in life. The fifth brother David I know very little about his sporting ability. A very sporting family all round who personified the the local sporting talent that was in the Stockton area just after World War II. Margaret the only female in the family completes the family who I think still resides in Stockton.

  3. No Idea as to who the team is but they have my greatest respect if that is the field they are playing in the length of the grass would make it very difficult to play any sort of football. If it is the Sparkes team from the Stockton and District league they were a very famous football team in local football winning countless cups and leagues over the years
