Event: History on your Doorstep: Windmills and Watermills

Details: Local historian Howard Ward will be giving talks on the windmills and watermills of Norton and Billingham

Event: ICI Billingham and Steam Reforming

Details: This talk will explore how a  technology developed between the 1930s and the 1950s on Teesside was used to make town gas for the public supply until the general conversion to natural gas in the 1970s.

Digital Heritage Volunteers

The Family History Suite is located in Stockton Reference Library.  It contains a variety of family history records on microfilm, microfiche and access to online resources.  We are looking to expand this collection by reaching out to the community and digitising individual and community archives, as well as ongoing work to digitise the library’s own local history collection.

Role Purpose: You will be part of the ongoing project to digitise materials held by the library and items donated or loaned by the public.

Key Tasks:
• Scanning photographs, negatives and other documents
• Basic reformatting e.g. cropping images
• Renaming files and adding additional information e.g. names, dates and locations

Skills Required:
• Literate and numerate
• Basic IT skills (training will be provided)
• Organized and Methodical
• Interested in Local / Family history and / or digital preservation
• Enjoying working with a small friendly team.
