Production of The Merchant of Venice, William Newton School

t14348The girl in the centre of the back row who played Skylock was called Barbara Mason. She went on to become an actress and played in many TV dramas and plays. She is known now as Barbara Marten. Does anyone recognise any of the others?

  1. Yes the person standing at the right as you look at the picture is Sandra Williams. The teacher was Margaret heard formally Ashton who came from Mill Lane school. The girl sitting 2nd from the right in the front row is Ann hodgson or similar surname. The girl in the front row sitting 2nd from the left with her hands on her knee and a bodice with straps crossing is Sheila Jenkins another person who came from Mill Lane school. I recognise other faces but cannot be sure.

  2. I made most of the costumes for this production and they were designed by Marian Heald the Art teacher and I have followed Barbara`s career with interest over the years. When I first started teaching at William Newton, Mill Lane Girls School had just closed and the girls and Staff amalgamated with William Newton, Miss Nicholson was then Headmistress. As well as plays I remember some very memorable end of term concerts when pupils and staff performed together, great fun.

  3. Think the blonde girl was Lynda Wilson, she joined us from Mill Lane girls when we were about 14yrs old.
Next. To Barbara is I think Jackie Pallister and Judith Lea
As we look on the end right is I think Sandra Williams, I used to love helping make. The costumes.
I met Barbara in Norton in March, she is still acting , lovely memories
